A place for your child to go online

Due to this COVID thing, parents are now spending 24/7 with their children. What would you give for 40 minutes of peace and quiet? Even just to take a nap?

David Groves’ Zoom Magic Class fits the bill perfectly! At $10 per class session, the price is right. It happens on Zoom, which is a protected Internet environment. And while you’re taking a breath, writing a memo, or just catching some Z’s, you can rest assured that your child is learning something that develops cognitive skills, strategic thinking, digital dexterity, presentation skills, and even personality!

Not only that, but in these isolated times, your child will have something to occupy his or her hungry mind throughout the week.

To sign up, pay $10 to PayPal account magicman.david@gmail.com, or my Venmo account at @David-Groves-20. Did we mention that it’s only $10 per class session?

where and when?

The first Zoom magic class will be held on Tuesday, April 7, at 4 pm.  The classes will last for 30 minutes.  Join us!  The classes will continue on Tuesdays at 4 pm until this COVID thing leaves us.

In each class session, David will be teaching tricks that use props that you can find around the house, such as playing cards, coins, pencils, rubber bands, paper, card stock, and the like.

David’s class has so far attracted children from California, Washington, Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, New York, and even Toronto! They are loyal students who come back every week.

Is your child old enough for the class? The recommended age range is 6 to 12. To be honest, it’s hard for anyone aged 5 and under to learn magic, due to cognitive development and limited dexterity, but I’m not going to block you from signing them up.  Maybe they’ll enjoy the fun and camaraderie.  And if it holds their attention and you get 30 minutes to yourself, who am I to question your judgment? In my most recent class, the mother of a child who is not quite four said that her child was riveted throughout the class, more than any other class he’d tried. As for the upper limit, I believe that any child up to age 12 will benefit from the class, and even older ones, too.  The tricks themselves are solid, so the older kids just learn faster and better.

David conducts the classes in his dining area, in front of his laptop computer, performing the same tricks that he does on large stages, and with the same enthusiasm and spirit.

who is David?

David has been performing magic professionally for the past 30 years full time, and has performed at the world-famous Magic Castle in Hollywood since 1997.  He has been the house magician at the Four Seasons Hotel and other 5-star hotels and resorts. He has been teaching magic to children for the past 10 years, first through STAR Education, Inc., for two years, and most recently, at Hamilton Elementary School in Pasadena.  The Pasadena Unified School District has cleared David for teaching using an FBI fingerprint check. For more on David, surf the rest of this website.

Because of the nationwide lockdown, all of David’s shows have been cancelled and he is without work.  This is how he is turning lemons into lemonade. He’s charging only $10 per class session in the hopes that he can get a whole lot of students watching at one time.  On Zoom, the room is big enough to hold lots!  Spread the word so we can make this a success!
